The State of New Jersey Victim of Crimes Compensation Office

Victims Compensation Eligibility

Victims of crimes resulting in an injury, mental trauma, or wrongful death may be eligible for compensation. Additionally, family members of an individual who died due to violent crime may also be eligible. In order to receive compensation through the victim's fund, there are a number of requirements that usually must be met:

  • In most circumstances, the crime must have occurred no more than two years before filing.
  • The crime must have been reported to the police no more than three months following the incident.
  • The crime must have had happened in New Jersey, even if the victim is not from New Jersey.

To be eligible to receive victim's compensation, the crime could be any of the following: assault, theft, domestic violence, drunk driving, aggravated assault, manslaughter, murder, and others. Contact us to find out more.
